Unfortunately, research suggests that most conventional unconscious bias training isn’t working or it may even backfire if it sends the message that biases are widespread and beyond our control.
Fortunately, it can work if it focusses not only on raising awareness of the existence of bias but teaches people how to manage biases and change behaviour. Organisations should also collect data on diversity, employees’ perceptions and training effectiveness and review and rethink their policies.
